Matthias Ramsey

Studied painting at the University of Applied Arts from 2012 to 2018 and has been studying biology with a focus on zoology at the University of Vienna since 2013. In the course of his painting studies he studied in the classes of Professor Judith Eisler and Professor Jan Svenungson as well as Contemporary Art Practice at the Shrishti Institute for Art and Design in Bengaluru. He currently works as an assistant to the artist Xenia Hausner.

Since 2013 he has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, among others at the “Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2016”, the “Bakery” in Innsbruck, the Schloss Spielfeld and the Independent Space “wasswerwerwasser” in Vienna. Project internships at the Laboratory for Marine Ecology in Sozopol and in Rovinj were particularly formative for his artistic work.

Matthias Ramsey’s artistic work is closely interwoven with his engagement with biological topics. He sees his painting as a playful exploration of what landscape painting is and can be, how people perceive their environment and interact with it.
